| Hoodwink, c1900 Societies that wished to keep their proceedings or location secret, employed hoodwinks to cover the eyes of potential members. Once initiated, members could take off the blinds. Although believed to be used by Masonic groups, it is not clear what ceremonies hoodwinks were actually employed in.
